In George Washington´s Farewell address, he points out the main motives for sectionalism. He stated in his letter, that the main causes for this evil were individuals whose mission was to create distrust or rivalries between people and regions to seek control of the government. He also argued that Americans had to put aside any local identity to become part of a larger community; they all had to build an identity as Americans, always looking for the well-being of the nation, and it’s Union.
