Hello from  MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:     49/6 or 8 1/6

Steps:

                 x - 1/6  = 8                 (given)

                x   = 8          + 1/6       (add 1/6 to each side of the equation)

                 x   = (48/6)   + 1/6     ( 8 = 48/6)

                 x   = (48 + 1)/6          (combine over a common denominator)

                 x   = 49/6   (or 8 1/6)

Regards,  MrB
